2005’s Kiss Kiss Bang Bang marked the turnaround in Robert Downey Jr.’s career and arguably the end of Val Kilmer’s. The tongue in cheek, buddy detective, neo-noire, gave Robert Downey Jr. the chance to shake off the funk from his previous decade of Hollywood shortcomings and provided a platform to workshop his soon-to-be beloved, Tony Stark of the Iron Man/Avengers franchise. The movie also paved the way for writer and director Shane Black who teamed up with Robert Downey Jr. again in Iron Man 3, and continued the tradition of KKBB with his 2016 hit, The Nice Guys. Unfortunately for Val, it appears as though he used every ounce of his acting ability in his role, thus the movie should be seen as a beautiful swan song for his career.
