This current crop of episodes have lost all the camp humour of the past shows and frankly, without that, it's just another cop show, albeit set in the beautiful countryside. As well as being more serious, there is an emphasis on lovely manor homes and better cinematography. I'd still rather have the quirkiness of the past, like the ones where the John Nettles Inspector Tom Barnaby was served cannabis brownies by the elderly lady wearing too much makeup.
Does anyone really care "who dunnit" in these shows? I only watch to see good actors slumming. The real mystery is how they get them to do these shows. I bet the salary for a guest star is sizable. Without the guest stars, I doubt many people, at least certainly not in the UK, would watch these.
