Movie achieved its iconic status because it was a modified UK Christmas pantomime with song, dance, buffoonery & slapstick. There was no cross-dressing by a guy to play -ahem!- handsome matron, but audience can't help to cheer the good guys & go boo-hiss on the villains. The big difference that last years before Great War setting movie had a way bigger budget, way bigger sets, location shooting & it mocked spies & then Imperial Germany if indirectly. Huh, the German actor who played Goldfinger played story within movie villain. Not surprising given book written by Ian Fleming.
