The concept of this book was interesting enough and the beginning looked liked the rest of the book was going to be good. But as the story progresses, it begins to feel too much like a Hunger Games/Divergent/Maze Runner copycat. Nothing really makes this book unique. The plot is also extremely slow and flat. Most of the book followed Cia and Tomas's journey through a abandoned Chicago (Divergent vibes) that the government forced the teens to go through (Hunger Games). The only positive thing about "The Testing" is the main character. Cia's voice is refreshing and she doesn't copy any other YA dystopian heroines. But Cia's ENTIRE problem could have been averted. Her father suspected the dangers of the testing and could have told Cia to do average in school (high grades determine who will be chosen for the testing). It was a major plot hole that was TOO hard to ignore. If you want the elements that are in this book, I suggest read the aforementioned titles. They are well written and have sturdy plots. It was a major letdown to a good idea.
