The series has come to an end (or has it?). The Secret is out (or is it?). Has the Midnight Sun been disbanded, destroyed, exposed? Not exactly. You’re frustrated, aren’t you? Well, so am I. After five books, after days of reading, there is no payoff, no resolution and no satisfactory revelation. The Secret is a dime-store joke, a villain dies but off page so there’s little emotional resonance and the story wraps up with a tired moral and a valedictorian speech that would have been better off being omitted altogether. At this juncture, it’s difficult to tell whether this series ever has been meant for children. They’d be impatient with the moralistic tone of the last few pages and adults would be infuriated that so little has come out of so much. Morals are generally best left at the end of short stories not sagas. This is a long way to go for such minor rewards.
