This is a 1998 American SF disaster film directed by Mimi Leder, written by Bruce Joel Rubin and Michael Tolkin. Steven Spielberg served as an executive producer. The film depicts the attempts to prepare for and destroy a 7-mile (11 km) wide comet set to collide with the Earth and cause a mass extinction. This movie was released during the same summer as a similar SF movie called "Armageddon", which fared better at the box office, while astronomers described "Deep Impact" as being more scientifically accurate. Although the story runs slowly, the film creates an amazing traffic jam and breath-taking visual effects. I enjoyed it at the edge of my seat especially when the giant waves hit New York City.
