This book was loads better then the first!! I found myself not wanting it to end and when it did I found myself thinking and wondering where the story is going to go from here. which does not happen to me very often. A great read!

My trend with Cinda Williams Chima's books seems to be that it takes me until the second book in a series to really get thoroughly engrossed. That was the case with her (excellent) Seven Realms series, and is also proving to be true in this, the sequel series. I enjoyed last year's Flamecaster, but I was really, really hooked on this sequel. It takes place largely at the same time as the events of the first book, focusing on different characters, and I sincerely had trouble putting it down. I loved the main character, Lyss -- she is just as tough and smart and difficult and real as her mother, the heroine of the original series, and I loved reading about her. I found the romantic subplot in this one much more credible than the one in Flamecaster, too, for reasons that I can't put my finger on. In short, I tore through this, and can't wait for book 3. Stellar YA fantasy.
