This is not a documentary about Vermeer, but rather a documentary about an exhibition at the National Gallery in London. The theme of the exhibition is music in paintings from the Dutch Golden Age. It was occasioned when the owner of Vermeer's Girl with a Guitar was loaned to the gallery while the owner's estate was being renovated. While there is some biographical info about Vermeer, and some superficial commantary about the five Vermeers in the exhibition, there is no exploration of the technique or composition of the works. What's more the photograhic representation of all the paintings is of a very low quality. I wondered if someone had smeared Vaseline on the camera lens, as so little detail was shown. If you are looking for a documentary about Vermeer I would suggest that you rather look for

- Vermeer Master of Light (narrated by Meryl Streep)
- Tim's Vermeer (using an optical technique to show how Vermeer may have achieved his works)

Either of these DVDs offers a better examination of why Vermeer stands out from his peers.
