"Real? You want to talk about reality? We haven't lived in anything remotely close to it since the turn of the century! We turned it off, took out the batteries, snacked on a bag of GMOs, while we tossed the remnants into the ever-expanding dumpster of the human condition. We live in branded houses, trademarked by corporations, built on bipolar numbers, jumping up and down on digital displays, hypnotizing us into the biggest slumber mankind has ever seen. You'd have to dig pretty deep, kiddo, before you can find anything real."

"How do we know if we're in control? That we're not just making the best of what comes at us, and that's it? Trying to constantly pick between two shitty options? Like your two paintings in the waiting room. Or Coke and Pepsi? McDonald's or Burger King? Hyundai or Honda? Hmm. It's all part of the same blur, right ? Just out of focus enough. It's the illusion of choice. Half of us can't even pick our own cable, gas, electric. The water we drink, our health insurance. Even if we did, would it matter? You know, if our only option is Blue Cross or Blue Shield, what the f**k is the difference?"

"Are you a one or a zero? That's the question you have to ask yourself. Are you a yes or a no? Are you going to act or not?"

"What is it about society that disappoints you so much?"
"Oh, I don't know. Is it that we collectively thought Steve Jobs was a great man when we knew he made billions off the backs of children? Or maybe it's that it feels like all our heroes are counterfeit. The world itself's just a big hoax -- spamming with our running commentary of bullshit masquerading as insight, our social media faking as intimacy. Or is it that we voted for this? Not with our rigged elections, but with our things, our property, our money. I'm not saying anything new. We all know why we do this, not because 'Hunger Games' books make us happy, but because we wanna be sedated. Because it's painful not to pretend, because we're cowards. F**k society."

"Hello, friend. Hello, friend. That's lame. Maybe I should give you a name. But that's a slippery slope. You're only in my head. We have to remember that."

Outstanding performances in a show clearly taking a cue from the writing style of Breaking Bad (where multiple seemingly disparate characters and subplots are indeed intertwined) - centering on a morphine addicted hacker out to save the world. The "fourth wall" is oft broken in this tight drama, adding an interesting element to the proceedings.

Compelling show about a hacker who suffers from clinical depression and social anxiety. Lots of unexpected twists and turned keep you hanging on for more.

Managed to watch 3 episodes but found it rather tedious. Good acting though but an unbelievable plot.

You don't know who to trust when Elliot weaves his web of deceit and revenge. It's not too long before he is caught in it himself. Plagued with mental illness, Elliot struggles to connect with people, leaving him with a detached sense of wonderment as he hacks away at the privacy of every soul he encounters. It's not until he accepts an invitation to an underground group called fsociety that Elliot realizes how much damage he can do … and how much can be done to him. I'll be honest; my interest sometimes ebbed and flowed like a wave with some episodes engaging me far more than others. Nonetheless, it is a solid series with some clever twists and turns. Some people will be turned off by Elliot's disposition, and if you don't care for technology, this show will frustrate you. So, yes, I know it's not for everyone, but I still recommend it on the sizable chance that it'll catch your fancy.
