So bad, it's not even "endearingly so", especially if you're looking for even the remotest of historical accuracy.

yes, the sharks were having a field day, after this ship sank below the waves. it's a wonder that any sailor survived those five long days awaiting rescue.

Basic facts were there but it was a sorrowful show. The true story was tragic and was one of the worst events in WWII. Nicolas Cage's depiction of Capt McVay was horrible and made him seem like a idiotic tyrant. Based on the investigation by the Navy and the accounts of the crew, Capt McVay was anything but. He treated his crew with the highest regard.

Sad story which portrays tragic events and the eventual destruction of a brave leader's reputation after the fact.

Great USA Navy movie based upon the true, tragic events it depicted.

The reason suicide was invented. I actually like Pearl Harbor more than this. Combines the two worst cliches in war movie history: The guy from Brooklyn with the annoying accent (there is a non annoying Brooklyn accent not represented in this movie), and THE LOVE TRIANGLE WITH THE PREGNANCY TWIST!!!! Ladies and Gentlemen; we have attained a level of crap and stupidity below that of The Room. Everything wrong with war films: annoying guy from Brooklyn! Love triangle, boring indiscernible bland characters, lame action, and the worst CGI effect known to human kind. watch the scene after the torpedo blast, and watch for the guy in the engine room with his hand on fire; you can literally see the guy's hand move and then the fire effect moves a split second later; no joke. also, you can see where the CGI is cut off at the edge of the rendering frame, so the box is visible. This kind of bad is only in parodies. If Saving Private Ryan, Fury, and Dunkirk are the reigning kings of War films, this one is lower than a peasant. I think the Nazis made this movie as a means of torture. RUN!!!!

I enjoyed this film and the story delivery. A real-life incident that most people don't know anything about. These top secret military actions occur even now, and woe is me if things go wrong. Gotta' look for the fall guy---always. I enjoyed the acting and Mario Van Peebles direction. I thought it was well done.

This movie is about a tragedy and the unjust that followed. The only problem I had with the movie that the visual effects could had been done better. Never the less, it was a good movie.

This falls under the category "bad Hollywood movies". It could have been good, even great but they totally blew it. The acting is questionable, characters are all over the place. This is 130 minutes wasted, no star there for sure.

Very sad that this amazing story is so little known. It certainly needs a bigger place in the history books! Nicolas Cage did very well in his part. It is atrocious the way Captain McVay (Nic Cage's role) was treated!! I agree with the other comment about how we treat our veterans. this story needs to be seen!!

As a commander in the Imperial Japanese Navy, it was my duty to kill you. But as a man... I have regrets.
-I had a good idea of what we were carrying. I, too, did my duty. But as a man... I find no... honor in it.
I often wonder how things would be if I had stopped you before you completed your mission.
-We have learned to forgive each other as former adversaries. Perhaps one day... we can forgive ourselves as men.
===
Charlie, how can you have an escort? You were never here.
===
For the secret mission, we are in effect a glorified postal service delivering two packages
with no protection, ...
===
Kaitens?
-It's a new Japanese weapon, a manned suicide torpedo, like an underwater kamikaze plane.
===
"It is the fourth day, and many men have simply given up. I've seen the strongest boys, their lives full of promise, succumb to our horrible circumstances. Others of us feel as though we are losing our minds."
