Book News
Helen Park Bigelow (b. 1933) writes about her father David Park (1911-1960) who died of cancer at a young age, depriving the world prematurely of an extraordinary painter now recognized as one of America's most important. He was of the post-World War II generation of artists who broke with abstract expressionism, and he was one of the Bay Area Figurative painters, a group that included Richard Diebenkorn, Elmer Bischoff, and Hassel Smith. This vibrant biography offers an intimate view of the man and his work, accompanied by 92 color plates and 22 halftones, a foreword by Richard Armstrong (director, Solomon R. Gugenheim Foundation), a chronology, and a list of selected reading and exhibition catalogs. The volume is oversize: 10x11.5". Annotation ©2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
