Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, isolated from society, a devoted father dedicates his life to transforming his six young children into extraordinary adults. But when a tragedy strikes the family, they are forced to leave this self-created paradise and begin a journey into the outside world that challenges his idea of what it means to be a parent and brings into question everything he's taught them.

I really loved this movie. I know about extremists who live within the fringes of society but this was an eye opener. I would recommend this.

This movie was a pleasant surprise. I had wanted to see it in theaters, but missed it. After reading the reviews on here, I was really looking forward to watching it. This movie was fabulous. The cinematography, the story, the depth of the emotions. Powerful story. Some humor. Quirky for sure. A great tale. I recommend watching it.

Great story and well acted by all the children and adult actors with this well thought out dialogue. The only violence that i can think of a previous comment suggested, was a slaying of a wild deer for their own eating, as they are a family living off the land, growing most of what the eat and killing what they need to. This is a family of six children living with thier father, as their mother becomes sick and then dies, in which follows how the family works through the mothers death and her dying wishes, which conflicts with her own parents and the rest of society. This is at heart a film of love and truth in a world of sometimes very different ideals. Highly recommended.

A great film on breaking conformity and the separation that creates. My family loved it and even with some hard scenes, it had us laughing at so many points that I'd recommend it.

I waited for a month to see this nasty movie. I made it about 10 minutes into it. I turned it off because it was violent. Don't know or care why this insane tribe of hippie drop outs killed who ever they killed but as an old hippie I found it offensive. Nothing fantastic about violent survivalists Made me mad as hell.

Very well title "CAPTAIN FANTASTIC"! I loved it!!
It brought a different but interest and intriguing perspective to how other people view life. The movie was very entertaining. It remained me of how sometimes innocent ways children view the world, and how limited options you have if you don't conform to what is regarded and the 'norm'. ... the conversation continues.'
Brilliant movie and amazing actors.

The film has a provocative message about civilization, certainly not new but presented with stark parental reality. More concerned with getting the message across than what would happen in reality: i.e. there would likely be a legal issue with his wife's Last Will and Testament and the serene ending feels a bit overly compromising.

Good movie, idealistic when it comes to nature, but provides food for thought about what is better naturalism or civilization.

When you have sex with a woman, be gentle and listen to her. Treat her with respect and dignity even if you don't love her. Always tell the truth. Always take the high road. Live each day like it could be your last. Drink it in. Be adventurous, be bold, but savour it. It goes fast. Don't die.
