Seems dull at the start but keep watching. Lots of surprises.

Story is absurd, but worth watching if only for Michael Stuhlbarg's turn as "Derby Milton." Pretty odd character.

Oh my gosh! WHAT a pile of BS!! LOL
Of course the acting and production quality are fantastic (look who's in it, and whom made it), but what will it ever take to have someone write a decent script, with at least some semblance of a realistic character, instead of 15 of the most implausible unrealistic characters, all together in one "small" town!?!
(BTW, 300 is a small town, not 3,000.) : P

I'm on the same page with most: An "A"-list cast in a "C" grade country-noir. I was shocked to find out the actor playing the wingnut 'Derby Milton', Michael Stuhlbarg, is the same actor who played Arnold Rothstein in "Boardwalk Empire". An amazing transformation.

The main guy/girl couple are painful to watch. They absolutely ruin any possibility of a decent movie. The only bright spot was the extremely disturbed Derby/Michael Stuhlbarg. J-Malk & BillyBob seem very out of place in here. Blecch.

good movie but just as EVERYONE has mentioned it was a Fargo wannabe! i liked the US POSTAL inspector! This is the greatest.....

File under: "Fargo" Wannabes—and a weak sister at that. Billy Bob Thorton is wasted. Bruce Dern is, well, Bruce Dern. And I never believed John Malkovich as a small-town Montana sheriff for a minute. The young couple (Liam Hemsworth and Teresa Palmer) can't act to save their lives, at least based on this evidence. The psycho guy was pretty good, though.

Those old timers can act ! The story was told in a way that requires a bit of thinking to connect all the dots. While it is just another film of the young trying to get out of boring and often suffocating small towns to dreams in the cities, the characters and murders make this one of the best. The ending was clever and satisfying.

Great acting across the board! Michael Stuhlbarg was stellar! A good murder/drama.

Joe: Best meals always found in the unlikeliest of places, right?
Joe: The best cobblers in the world are found in hospital food courts.

Stan: ... Now that's downright lucky and lucky don't run in your blood. You and me both know that.

The finish, small town poetic justice:
Sheriff: I know that I ain't very clever. My expertise is in the simple, and that ain't for everybody either. Sometimes in life the truth is more than I'd prefer. This is one of those times.
Stan to Dwayne: If you need to leave, you ought to have left already. Waintin' around for lucky money, that's for sallies and lazies. ... It's about time you had some family around here helpin' you out. Reckon you wouldn't get this kind of pass in the big city, and you best not ever need it again. And not a word to Cassandra about this.
