Both an educational and entertaining approach to the subject of constellations. In the case of Ursa Minor, the author starts with the origins of astronomy, the North Star, the other stars in the Little Dipper, and its historical importance. Following this is its mythical origin story. In ancient Greece, Ursa Minor is related to the story of Zeus' birth. To be thorough the author mentions variations of the story as well as tales from other cultures. Both photographs and illustrations adorn these pages. Photos include images of the stars, as well as relevant historical objects and places. Additional resources can be found in the back. Between the fun facts, an interesting story, tips on finding the constellation, and a manageable size, each volume in this new series is perfect for a wide range of children. This includes both those that prefer non-fiction and fiction. Each constellation's story gets removed from the larger body of a culture's mythology to shine alone in its individual glory.
