I really, really liked this movie. Titus is long, chaotic, and pretty trashy and the costumes and sets are always unpredictable. I would recommend this movie to fans of over the top exploitation cinema, like Tarantino or a lot of Korean thrillers. If you're looking for a classy adaptation of high class theater, look elsewhere.

This movie is just too weird for me.

The juxtaposition of modern and ancient was too distracting, too bizarre, to notice the acting.

I stopped it after ten minutes.

I was no more bothered by the anachronisms blending the Roman Empire with the 20th century in this film than I was in the old Star Trek episode "Bread and Circuses". It makes some interesting visuals. The film was very well acted, and main reason for watching any movie or play by Shakespeare is to listen to his language.

I was disappointed with this movie. I really enjoyed Taymor's adaptation of _The Tempest_ and I was looking forward to _Titus_. However, I just didn't like all the weird mixture of the Roman and modern worlds. It would have been better if everything had been kept in ancient Rome. However, I recommend this movie for the great performances by the actors! They all did a great job with the Shakespearean language (Lange seemed to force her lines a bit, though). I definitely recommend this movie for the actors' great navigation of a poor movie overall.

Movie well done, but strange. Excellent acting, but too 'artistic' for us. Similar to watching Shakespeare, swapping between ancient and modern times.

Stupid, Hopkins must have need to make an estimated tax payment

This movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. “Not too bad---good performance”. "I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.”

"Saw" in tights. Which sucked first, the play or the film? On one hand, Shakespeare obviously wrote it to capitalize on the success of other Revenge Plays. But in no way is Titus Andronicus as good as the Duchess of Malfi or The Revenger's Tragedy. It's mix of long, can-you-top-THIS? scenes, and brooding. On the other hand, the movie is directed by Julie Taymor, who has maintained an impressively consistent level of suckage throughout her career. True, the anachronisms work, but that is because the play itself makes little sense. Why not set it any old where/nowhere? The performers take advantage of this gap to overact, because who could possibly call them on it? 1.5 stars for Jessica Lange's Joan Crawfordlike Tamora and Anthony Hopkins's blue eyes. Yes, I'm reaching.

I was prepared to dislike this film when I realized that there was a blend of ancient and modern elements. However, the anachronisms work well. The production is well done. The acting is good. You don't have to be a Shakespeare fan to like this film (although it helps). If you like artistic movie making, you'll like this. Recommended.
