This book should be titled, "The Autobiography of Cissy Houston. And I also threw a bit of stuff in about my famous daughter.” While I realize this book is written from Cissy’s perspective on Whitney, it was truly unnecessary for Cissy to incessantly talk about herself, brag about her career and one Grammy, include photos of herself and her discography. I was thinking it was a shameless attempt at self-promotion in order to get cash and nearly quit reading it but managed to trudge though. I’m glad I did as the second half is quite moving and is actually about Whitney Houston. If I bought this book I would try to take it back. Definitely a library read.

Cissy Houston is extremely honest in this memoir. She paints everyone in her family, including herself, in a truthful and realistic light. An immensely enjoyeable book.

A mothers words somewhat real and one sided makes you realize no family is perfect not bad reading but sad as well
