When Zira reveals their ability to speak to a psychologist, the apes are treated as curiosities. However, when the U.S. government begins to believe their story that the Earth will eventually be inherited by apes, it decides to hunt the couple down as an evolutionary threat and tries to prevent the birth of Zira's baby.

This is a 1971 SF drama directed by Don Taylor.
It is the third of five films in the original Planet of the Apes series produced by Arthur P. Jacobs, the second being "Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970)".
The film focuses on some social issues of the day such as scientific experimentation on animals, nuclear war and government intrusion.
It was followed by "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes".
Although the second installment ended in a way that it prevented the series from moving on, 20th Century Fox still wanted a sequel.
So they placed three apes in the men's spaceship that Colonel Taylor had once operated before the Earth was destroyed.
