Although the movie left out some pertinent details that were in the book (like usual), the movie portrayal was quite entertaining on its own with some excellent acting & beautiful Hawaiian landscapes. (For a full review of this story, see my book review. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/968403.The_Descendants?from_search=true )

Age recommendation: 14 & up (profanity, discussions of infidelity, visuals of an comatose woman)

On a scale of 1-10 stars, I give it 7. (Book ranking - 7 stars)

I have an indifferent feeling to this movie. Don't really have an opinion. I'm not sure why that is. I enjoyed seeing the beautiful shots of Hawaii and I enjoyed the family history part of it, even though it is just for storytelling purpose. It was different but nice to see Clooney in a very un-Hollywood role. I think I was turned off by the Matthew Lillard and Judy Greer characters.

Pretty good movie but kind of slow and boring! Some beautiful shots of Hawaii.

Good concept. Man learns his wife was having an affair just after he is informed she will never awake from a coma after a boating accident. This movie says something about the special, enduring love of men that persists even in anger and the pain of betrayal. Setting the film in Hawaii pushed it over the top into great movie territory for me.

Unique, unpredictable movie. Intensely moving scenes, even when nothing seems to be happening. Discomfort of the characters is palpable. Offbeat humor. I hated Payne's tedious "Sideways" (quit halfway through), but this one kept me mesmerized all the way.

The dad tries to reconnect his daughter with her mom who is going to die after a accident happened. While he do that, he explore the truth of the happened accident and the cause lead to relationship disruption between his daughter and wife. Also, he can not imagine that the relationshop disruption between him and his wife would be happened if the accident did not occur. This film is worth to watch and think.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: A woman is shown in a coma. Some would find this display uneasy, although it doesn't go out of its way to be like that.

Aug 03, 2012

Coarse Language: The f-word is used 25 times, the s-word about a dozen times, goddamn just under 10 times, and Jesus twice. A little girl also gives someone the middle finger.

Sexual Content: The only truly crass scene is one where a little girl tries looking up adult films on an on-demand channel on television. The images are just still images and they're not overtly explicit. Her father and sister stop her from going any further than that. This scene lasts about 45 seconds.

Violence: A teenage boy is punched in the face by an older man. It's a P.O.V. shot, so we don't see the fist make contact. (I wouldn't be concerned in terms of violence. This moment is literally two seconds long.)
