muted story of a dysfunctional family, muted colours with bright white snow and everpresent Ozu-like slashes of red. emotions are closed in like the salmon fingerlings in the drawers at the hatchery - all waiting to be set free to mature and eventually to return home.

Uninspired plot about a dysfunctional family in a tiny Northern Japanese town ... Central character was a controlling 70 year old widower who walked on a snowy path everyday to see the salmon fries and a young woman in the town's hatchery.
