“Love and Honor describes the life of a samurai whose level is so low as to have the only function of testing food to make sure the clan leader does not receive poison. Life becomes very complicated when one day he eats food that has been improperly cooked thereby placing him into a coma blindness once he comes out of the coma. The remainder of the movie is a struggle for honor and love. The director, Yogi Yamada, insists that samurai were ordinary men with jobs and problems just like any other common man. They were not like superman, as depicted by Akira Kurosawa.
