I liked a lot of the comments so far. elements of 2001 as well as other space movies. crazy creepy ending, didn't see that coming. there were some holes and maybe i wasn't paying complete attention. overall enjoyable and i liked the cast. graphics were pretty neat as well.

Somewhere in Ray Bradbury's writings, a character reflects that an astronaut heading into a sun is part of a long line of travelers who set sail for the dazzling south. And Sunshine is dazzling, brilliant, yet realistic (just don't look too closely at the science). As others have noted, it has a flawed third act -- or does it? I haven't much to add -- IMO, it works, but could use a final rewrite -- but I've posted a video that goes far to explain what the film makers were aiming at. It contains spoilers, so I suggest you watch the movie, enjoy the characters, the acting, the score, and the stunning cinematography, and come back to watch the video if you need help with the story.

Dazzling special effects. I hear the term 'algorithm' in movies far too many times.

Sunshine is probably one of my favorite Sci-Fi films of all time. While I agree with the others here, that the ending was pretty terrible, the rest of the movie definitely carries this one to 4 1/2 stars for me. With brilliant storytelling, incredible effects and strong character development, you will be at the edge of your seat.

Scary brilliant. I told my friend since there wasn't any black people, that meant ALL the asians would die! She laughed but then as movie progressed we were both shocked as to who survived. Starts as typical space mission to save the world. However it gradually twists and becomes about deeper issues. Do risks outweigh the benefits? Is it right to sacrifice one for many? If yes how do you decide who should die? How does space effect the mind? Is it right to choose your own death? How do you feel after you've made a mistake? Makes you reflect long after the movie is done.

The evil character at the end is so well done. I loved the effect they gave him to blurr it as if looking at heat wave. Which was so unique, gave you his prospective and was scary!

I enjoyed the first two thirds, and then came the absurd ending, spiraling reality down the bowl... whooosh... too bad.

In the year 2057 the sun is starting to burn out prematurely causing an eternal ice age on earth. A crew of eight astronauts is sent on a mission to explode a huge mega-bomb in the sun’s upper layers in an attempt to “create a star within a star” thereby re-igniting the solar furnace and saving the world. This is mankind’s second attempt to do this, the first crew having mysteriously disappeared before they could complete their mission. What follows is a grand entry in the sci-fi genre with elements reminiscent of 2001, Alien and Event Horizon. Boyle splashes the screen with gorgeous sensual images which convey not only a sense of wonder but also explore the various ways technology and spirituality impact each other. The talented cast is well-balanced and play off each other with a high degree of believability thanks in large part to a strong director and tight script. While there is some definite artistic license regarding the underlying physics (this is science FICTION after all) the accompanying commentary by Dr. Brian Cox offers some interesting theories regarding the film’s premise. Well deserved praise aside, the film is not without a few glaring flaws. The “Bogeyman in the Airlock” subplot was a bit of overkill, and Boyle seemed to fall in love with his own pyrotechnics towards the end resulting in a finale that bordered on the self-indulgent. Despite these faults, Sunshine is still an exhilarating ride worth taking.

This thrilling sci-fi has it all! An epic soundtrack, a suicide mission to save Earth, metaphysical philosopy, a deranged ship captain, and of course great actors from Cillian Murphy to Rose Byrne to Mark Strong!

Ok. this movie is close to my heart for reasons other than that of the production. That being said, i agree with the reviewer who said if you know [absolutely] anything about science it will make your head hurt! (even tho the lead drew his inspiration from world renowned Prof. Brian Cox) Is it accurate... no. If you go into it just looking to be entertained and nothing else, you could do far worse than this. Long story short (too late for that now right?) Take 2001, introduce it to Aliens, and spice it up will a hint of Hellraiser and viola, you have Sunshine.

I'll watch anything with Michelle Yeoh. The movie gets only 1 star for killing Michelle too soon.
