Excellent film. The story works well and the special effects still hold up very well. Originally rated PG (PG-13 wasn't created until after the release of Temple of Doom and first used for Red Dawn), it's violent and scary in places, but still tame by some of today's commonplace. This is one of those must-see movies. Highly recommended.

It is a little violent, I will admit. I would recommend this movie to teens and adults, I would not recommend it for kids. Aside from the adventure and action movie, there was a humorous side. I was rolling on the floor when the Nazi's heads exploded, imploded, and melted at the end.
George Lucas brought Harrison over from Star Wars to play in this film. I think both roles as Han Solo and Indiana fit him well.

The original Raiders movie is a rather terrific action adventure. If Star Wars didn't exist, Harrison Ford would still have a top billing career off of this one performance.

It was like a roller coaster - non-stop action almost the entire way! I enjoyed the film, although the superstitious views held by the Nazis and other people surrounding the Ark of the Covenant put me off.

*Favourite "Indiana Jones" quote* - "I hate snakes!"

For having just a PG-13 rating - I was completely taken by surprise by all of the violence, gore, and bloodshed that prevailed in this top-notch Action/Adventure film from 1981.

Featuring a first-rate, adrenaline-rush, opening sequence - "Raiders of the Lost Ark" certainly delivered plenty of awesome, over-the-top stunts, as well as some good touches of cynical humour (thrown in for good measure) that kept all of the action moving along at near break-neck speed, throughout.

My 2 favourite characters in this fast-paced action picture were - Dr. Rene Belloq, the utterly ruthless villain, and Nazi-collaborator, played so wickedly nasty by actor Paul Freeman - And, of course, Indiana Jones, our archeologist-hero (sans super-powers), played very tongue-in-cheek by Harrison Ford.

My biggest complaint here has to do with the unwelcome introduction of the Marion Ravenwood character into the story. To me, her presence in the action only served to interfere and undermine Indiana Jones's heroic quest to uncover the legendary "Ark of the Covenant" before the evil Nazis did.

Action at it's finest.

The movie contained a lot of action. It wasn't what I expected though. There wasn't a strong enough plot. The performance of the actors/actresses was great, however, which made up for some of the weak parts. I think that it could have possibly been rated PG-13-they didn't have that back then.

No wonder they had about 8 stuntmen taking the place of Harrison Ford to bring him through alive! After all the down-to-earth action I found the supernatural extermination of the villains detracted from the plot. I would have preferred skipping this scene to go directly to the US military warehouse (which would have given the movie on a conspiratorial cover-up ending).

AAA rated. Great action, adventure, & acting. Holds up well for a 30+ year old film. A little sophomoric in places, true, and the fortean theme is a little over the top, but that's just what you get w/Indiana Jones. Recommended. (Note: If you want to watch the entire series in order, this is the release sequence: Raiders (1981), Temple of Doom (1985), The Last Crusade (1989), and Kingdom of the Crystal Scull (2008). )

Frightening or Intense Scenes: The ending on island with the ark. Saying anymore than that could be considered spoiler-ish.

Violence: The usual violence from period pieces. A bit more bloody than I remembered, but mostly of the true is off-screen.

Violence: Lots of people died. The show wasn't that scary though, even though people were shot, burned, shot by poisonous arrows and flew of the side of a cliff. :3

Frightening or Intense Scenes: Same thing. Just lots of skeletons that are realistic looking. Lots of blood, though it looks like someone just splattered nail polish all over. And the part with people melting is pretty creepy.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: Skeletons, humans peppered with poisoned arrows, poisoned small monkey, and "melted" human faces are some of the frightening images. A jeep and several villains plunge off a road over a cliff.
