The nation has fallen into mourning after the death of a beloved former first lady. The most powerful people in the world gather in New York for her funeral - then the inconceivable occurs. Billionaires, politicians, and superstars of every kind are suddenly trapped within one man's brilliant and cold-blooded scenario.
Detective Michael Bennett - father of ten - is pulled into the fray. As the danger escalates, Michael experiences a devastating loss: after fighting it for many years, his wife has succumbed to a terrible disease. As New York descends into chaos, he faces raising his ten heartbroken children alone - and rescuing thirty-four hostages.
Day after day, Bennett confronts the most ruthless man he has ever encountered. As the entire world watches and the tension builds to a searing heat, Bennett has to find a way out - or face responsibility for a deadly debacle.

This novel is by far one of the best by James Patterson, and I enjoyed reading about Michael Bennett's family. The ending was so unexpected. Good read!

Gave up on this book after a completely unrealistic death of the First Lady.

Entertaining read, pretty interesting main character even if not very well-developed in the book. I didn't like the end as much as the rest of the book. It felt like there was too much setup for a few pages where everything falls into place like magic. However, still an enjoyable read

I've read most of Patterson's books, except for any in the Mike Bennett series.
I have to say, this book is one of my favorites to date.

I found this a very quick read, but also violent and disturbing. Great summer reads generally are not this dark, but having said that, Patterson does not disappoint. It was fast paced and held my attention all the way through.

Pretty good book. Very interesting. The ending didn't have to be as complicated as it was, though.
