Over their 30 years as a touring band several peaks stand out in just about all Deadheads minds as exceptionally rich periods of creation.

1989 - 1991 is one such period and certainly the latest period of time in their career. This CD was pieced together over 1989 - 1990 and "organized" to create a full, two set show with songs more or less placed in an order that you might have experienced at a show at that point of time.

Thus, by itself, WAN would stand out as a rich, commercially sonic composition from a high point of the Dead's career. But that's not all!! Legendary jazz saxophonist/improviser Branford Marsalis is featured on a couple songs with the absolute highlight being his contribution to Eyes of the World.

Known as the "jazziest" of the Dead's repertoire, during EOTW Branford and Jerry Garcia lock into exchanging symphonic lines that take the listener from Nassau Coliseum to the outer stretches of the universe and back all on the gentle cradle of the rest of the boys. There are many great live versions of EOTW but this one stands out for many as the best and is worth the listen just for this one song.

Not just for Heads, this CD showcases the band during a great run, and in addition to featuring a jazz legend, is also the last live issue featuring the late Brent Mydland, many Heads' favorite keyboard player.

If you like the Dead you will love this; if you are a jazz lover you should check it out for the great fusion work put forth; if you are curious about the Dead this is a great CD to check out to get a taste of what they were all about.
