the 1939 "Adventurers of Sherlock Holmes" is often copied, but the original is still the best. No one can replace Basil Rathbone the clever detective. Dr. Watson can only be Nigel Bruce, who got Sherlock Holmes to utter the famous phrase "Elementary My Dear Dr. Watson". Here in 1939 Sherlock Holmes is up against his arch rival Professor Moriarty. The professor has come up "with the crime of the century". Bringing this to the attention of Sherlock Holmes is the talented Ida Lupino. She would go onto a great acting and directing career. I won't give you any more details on "the crime of the century:", but you can see it is no small matter. KCLS has only one copy of the movie and there are 3 holds at the moment. These people knew what they were doing! Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce made so many wonderful Holmes Adventurers. This one just seems to stand out a little further than the others. Let me know your reaction to the film right here on the KCLS web site.
PS This is the first patron comment on one of the Golden Era of Films most popular film series. This make the 75 anniversary of "The Adventurers of Sherlock Holmes". We are fortunate to have the one copy of the film in the KCLS catalog.
