The unloved middle child of star trek franchise because they weren't technically exploring, more peacekeeping in flashpoint sector with provisional government & it gotten darker with limited & total wars over the seven year run. They only got exploring later.
However, ensemble cast was great.
The first season is good, but the show got much better in later seasons.
I love this DVD series. It help me to remember the strong characters & story. It is well done. If you like Sci-fi's & Star Trek, you will love the DS9 series.
A very interesting variation on the Star Trek theme!
Complex, dark, and intriguing! As soon as you finish season 1 you will be on to season 2! :)
Favourite Episode of Season 1:
The first season of the best Star Trek series (IMHO). Like any other 1st season, the episodes are not all gem because the actors & writers were still finding the perfect status quo. The best episode in season 1 hands down is 119: Duet. If you have some understanding about the relationship between the Bajorans (formerly oppressed) and the Cardassians (former oppressors), I recommend checking out the DVD just to watch this episode. It is that good.
First disk as commented already has major issues. Episode 1 and 2 are watcheable (minor skipping needed) but episode 3, the entire second half is unplayable.
Disc 5 - The Forsaken has one minor spot needing to be skipped past. Rest works well
(Though I did notice that in "416" and "417" use the exact same plasma burst. Too close together to be missed)
The first disc may have some problems playing due to some chipped plastic in the inner ring. When I tried playing it in my PS3 it made a horrible noise and I immediately took it out for fear that I would cause damage to my system or cause further damage to the DVD. I ended up playing it on my laptop and it worked fine. All the other discs seem to be in good condition.
