I thought it was a great read. So many different parts of the generational family. It was one of Anne Tyler's best efforts.

I love Anne Tyler so it pains me to give this book such a low rating, but I just couldn't get past the first chapter. It was intriguing at first, with their son calling them with the news that he was gay. But I had to go back and look to…

Not one of my favorite Anne Tyler books. I found it very disjointed and erratic, jumping around in its plots and characters. Perhaps it is a portrait of real life, especially with regards to family relationships, but I found myself craving…

I enjoy Tyler's books, the interesting but odd and totally believable characters. Since I've lived in Baltimore, the setting is warmly familiar. This book is no exception. But I found the ending disappointing. Still, a good read.

DNF. After reading several pages, it could not hold my interest. Quite mundane.

Loved this book. Only discovered Anne Tyler about a month ago & I'm already on her 4th book. She writes compact, realistic dialogue for authentic characters in believable family dramas.

This one seems to be either loved or disliked extremely! If you want a thriller, page turner it isn't for you but if an introspective look at the human condition of a three generational family intrestes you, you will likely enjoy it. I…

I really enjoyed reading this book up until the last 15% or so, but I wasn't really happy with how it ended. After I rated it 3 stars, though, I started thinking about some of the quotes that I bookmarked, and how cinematic the story was…

This novel was very disappointing, going back and forth on history and current events. So mind boggling. I would not recommend this anyone. YUK

Prose. A poignant saga all about the full emotional range that we experience as part of a family. Need to read.

Nobody captures the nuances of family relationships like Anne Tyler. Red and Abby Whitshank have raised four children in the Baltimore family home built by Red's father. Red also runs the construction company started by his father.…

The reference to the title comes at the very end of the book but it is clear what it stands for. The book deals with three generations of Whitshanks and their lives and the upheavals they go through. It starts with Abby and Red and the…

Anne Tyler's "Spool of Blue Thread" shouldn't be a page turner, since it's "just" a story of three generations of a family fairly calmly living their lives. Yet I read it in one sitting and mostly loved it. Tyler has a wonderful knack of…

Story about a family with the usual ups and downs. Accurately portrayed characters but lost interest 2 thirds of the way in.

I liked this book. I didn't like most of the characters but then I don't think the writer did either. She did throw in one with whom I could associate and I do thank her for that. I've known and heard of families like the…

This is a completely character driven book. If you are someone who wants some action in your reading, this book may not be for you. If you are someone who appreciates well developed characters, then place your hold now. This is a very nice…

I did not get half way through this book. I lost interest in the first few chapters. I can not recommend it to anyone.

This is a throw-away book by Anne Tyler. (To clarify: DO NOT ACTUALLY THROW AWAY THE BOOK. All I mean is that this is just something she churned out because she was due for another book) It's just yet another older white middle-class…

I did not like this book. Neither I recommend to anyone waiting for. When the book is finish leaves you with a sense of emptiness. The end is vague and without answering many questions,

It was a good book about dysfunctional families but Nice to see how the bad kid finally figures it out.

I couldn't even get a third of the way through this book due to boredom. Nothing happened within the first 115 pages other than the family getting together from time-to-time. I understand that this is a top book for 2015 but I wouldn't…

A house on Bouton Street in Baltimore sees the lives of the Whitshank family through several generations. Oh, the secrets they've kept. A bit slow to start, but once you get going it’s classic Tyler with her quirky characters and her…

This was such a disappointing book. Nothing happens - it just wallows along with no point. It came highly recommended by a good friend, and I read it all the way through and thought, "That's it...?" Skip this one - it's not worth your…
