Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment. Will Rogers

A bit of a slow burn, but that soundtrack kicks it up a notch. Some stylish editing and film-work add to the visuals. Underrated Canadian film.

Although there is much to engage here, the film is heavily colored by the music of Bruce Peninsula. From the first shot there is a pounding assertion of the sort of get right with God music that is highly atmospheric but perhaps a…

I enjoyed this "little" Canadian crime film. Interesting to see the lead play a character with at least a few human qualities. Who can forget his effort in Fargo (head first into the wood chipper my old pal!).

I didn't like this film at all. I wouldn't recommend it. I especially disliked the loud music playing throughout the film.

shocking, spine-tinkling thriller!

Violence lies beneath the surface of a small town in Ontario, but the real star is a fascinating Mennonite culture that provides a unique setting.

This movie dragged on like a low-budget, boring, Canadian, made-for-TV film. Better off watching Murdoch Mysteries; at least they have some humour in them and some historical value. The music was inappropriate, loud, and downright…

An excellent film. Consider the title, Small Town Murder Songs. The pace and rhythms of a small town are "slow" and predictable (usually). The slow routine is the backdrop of all the drama of the characters. The film captures it…

Trying to be profound by being less exciting and interesting than the death of an ant.

A decent movie.

Horrible film. The jacket says it grips you from the opening credits. Huh? I have been to a small town where accents were the norm. There is nothing good in a single scene to make me want to see more. Thank God we have FF. To…

Not a lot to it but also not unpleasant to watch.

I like low-budget but well-made films, and was hoping to find one in this title. But I was disappointed. The story telling was slow and uneventful. The repetitive quotes from the bible did not add value. In the end it turned out to be…

Acting, cinematography and score all were fabulous. I see that some people found it boreing, which seems a tad unjust. People are so used to every single nanosecond being filled with things which do not allow the viewer to even think…

A 'dark' movie - but good cinematography and acting.

Very good movie. An existential tale of conflict--internal, generational, familial, cultural, societal, sexual. Beautifully filmed, wonderfully acted (lead actor + supporting cast). Plus an overwhelming (literally and figuratively)…

Though slow-moving I thought this was still a powerful film. It's far more about the redemption of its protagonist, Walter, than about the murder which is the narrative's galvanising event. Walter is baptised early in the film, but the…

Very disappointing. Everything that you feared about tedious independent Canadian film is in this one.

Canadian fills do tend to be languid, but this one is, for a murder mystery, almost comatose. OK, we get the self-sacrifice "acceptance works better than violence" point. But a) there is an awful lot that does not tie together, and b)…
