The ending was extremely powerful. To be put in and taken out of their lives in such a fashion is vicious. To have their reunions happen so quickly and end even quicker just leave me extremely sad and believe it might have been better if they didn't try to get to know each other. But so much would be lost if they never met.

As someone who lived through life as a black girl, it hurt to hear a story filled with my own shared experiences and fears. It's an unspoken truth that we are all conscious about but refuse to talk about. Every time something bad happens to black girl, every time a man catcall a girl or says something crude about a woman, I hear someone say "That's somebody's Daughter!". Yet no one has dived into what that actually means. Who is this "Somebody" and why should we care about THEIR daughter? Ford's story gives us the exact answers to both questions and, if someone who never cared about if a girl was somebody's daughter were to read this, I'm sure they'll start to care reading this.As someone who lived through life as a black girl, it hurt to hear a story filled with my own shared experiences and fears. One of the first thinks that went through my mind was "This book was clearly written by a woman." It takes so many of the specific casual fears and views a woman has and turns them around into reasons for obsessive and "protective" behavior towards women. Joe is constantly doing things for Beck in order to protect her from the dangers of the world but said dangers are things women fear in general and seeing Joe not realize that he is one of those fears is a frustratingly unique experience. One of the first thinks that went through my mind was "This book was clearly written by a woman." When I first picked up the book, I did not know it was an LGBT+ book (let alone with part of the LGBT+) and that added to the surprise and the sad feeling deep in my chest. I could not help but cry when reading the end and, to this day, I do not know if my tears were from sadness or happiness. The story is beautiful and holds a level of mystery I did not expect, not even when Vivek dies, something the story tells you from the very beginning. When I first picked up the book, I did not know it was an LGBT+ book (let alone with part of the LGBT+) and that added to the surprise and the sad feeling deep in my chest. The start of the story really makes you think that Junior is not the problem, that it's those around him that are the issue. As the readers, we aren't being told how unreliable of a narrator Junior really is. This caused me to pity him in the ending, and to see things from Hen's eyes, which was hard to do since we spend the majority of the story feeling like it's Hen's lack of verbal communication that's causing the marriage to die.
I really like the use of quotes to indicate Human vs Clone. The realization of Juniors speech switching from no quotes to having quotes, and vice versa for Hen, really makes the ending hit a bit harder.
I feel like the idea of clones was secondary to the dying marriage presented to the readers. The start of the story really makes you think that Junior is not the problem, that it's those around him that are the issue. This book really makes you think about life, death, and he amount of control you have in the world, especially the parts of the world connected to you. The idea that death can come when you least expect it flows throughout the book and it makes you think "Im I prepared to die?" and the answer for the majority is usually no, unless you are in a situation where you see yourself dying and you're waiting for the time to come, such as Doris. In that situation, you force yourself to accept death, but, are you ready for it? Throughout the book, there was a focus on the death of others and Georges future. Not once did George think "What's going to happen when I die?"This book really makes you think about life, death, and he amount of control you have in the world, especially the parts of the world connected to you. The way the small facts and details change with ease is what really gives the audience the idea that this is not reality. Many of these details almost went unnoticed by me because I would put the book down and stop reading for the day, so I don't remember the small details and the scene that plays in my head will be slightly different compared to the last time I picked the book up.
Like many I started reading because of the movie on Netflix. I wish the movie had ending the same way as the book because the movie's ending, while it holds the same meaning, doesn't get it across as well as the book.
Lasting, I've falling in love with Reid's writing style. The constant use of periods made it seem like the narrator was rambling, like we were getting a live feed of her thoughts. It was like the ramblings of a mad man, which adds to the story itself. The way the small facts and details change with ease is what really gives the audience the idea that this is not reality. Like many, I watched the movie before I read the book. Most of the time, you'd expect the movie to do the book no justice. This is not the case for The Color Purple. I love how the movie was missing things from the book because it changed the how we saw the fictional story without altering the nonfictional elements.Like many, I watched the movie before I read the book. I find the writing style a bit hard to get used to but when I did the story flowed like water. Even though we don't get all the personal details of Nadia's and Saeed's relationship told in an emotional way, I still understand why they felt the way they did throughout their relationship. I picked this book up because it was recommended as a reference for my own writing style (dialogue without quotation marks). I continued to read because I somehow related to both characters in the story. The way the characters choose to deal with their worsening mentality and the roughness of adult life and their own personal struggles was just amazingly relatable for me. I honestly feel like this would be a good book for high school seniors to read. It may help them deal with life after they graduate, because, even the most popular kid in your high school will struggle to make friends in college. Even the smartest kid in your high school will struggle to get a job. High School too often ends with these young adults feeling like not much about them will change.I picked this book up because it was recommended as a reference for my own writing style (dialogue without quotation marks). This book would have been so much better for the black community if Stockett had written the book Skeeter had been writing. I found it extremely hard to get through the book because all of Aibileen and Minnie's chapters seem like pity for blacks while Skeeter chapters seem like filler for the actual book. Skeeter being a tall, frizzy head girl who couldn't get a boyfriend was so out of pocket for the story that I'm glad it wasn't important for the movie. I also don't understand how Skeeter could get that far in journalism without noticing the amount of black people dying for speaking out, she acted as if the idea that black voices were being oppressed was a new concept for her.
Out of all the "White Savior" stories I've seen, this is the worse. This book would have been so much better for the black community if Stockett had written the book Skeeter had been writing.
